The creation of this web resource is part of an UK Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project entitled Ernest Berk: An Expressionist Outsider. The project team comprise Prof Monty Adkins, Dr Samuel Gillies and Ian Helliwell along with colleagues at Heritage Quay — the archive service at the University of Huddersfield – and the Archive team at the Historisches Archiv der Stadt, Köln.
This online resource facilitates the availability of 181 of Berk’s electronic compositions, originally digitised by Martin Köhler prior to the 2008 collapse of the Historisches Archiv der Stadt, Köln. Through the work undertaken by the project, additional tape materials have been located and will be digitised and archived via Heritage Quay.
In addition to the provision of this important digital resource, other publications are forth coming and will help to articulate Berk’s important contribution to electronic music in England between 1955 and 1985.
